July 19 – The BBVA Stadium in Monterrey, Mexico, was rocking for the clash of Concacaf’s giants, World Champions USA and Olympic Champions Canada.

It was the final that everyone had expected and most had wanted to see. The US and Canada had dominated the competition from the start and they worked their routes to the final, neither team conceding a goal.

The US still haven’t conceded a goal, taking the regional honours and the automatic slot at the 2024 Olympics in Paris with a 1-0 win delivered by an Alex Morgan penalty.

July 19 – Jamaica took third place in the Concacaf W Championship with a Kalyssa Vanzanten goal in extra time for a 1-0 win over Costa Rica in a baking BBVA Stadium in Monterrey, Mexico.

Jamaica have been the big success story of this championship, starting off with a surprise 1-0 win over hosts Mexico, and finishing with World Cup qualification for the second successive time – no other Caribbean nation has qualified for a men’s or women’s World Cup twice – and a place on the podium.

July 17 – Monday night’s final of the Concacaf W Championship could alternatively be called the women’s world Super Cup for international teams, pitching the current World Champions USA against the current Olympic Champions Canada.

It is a fight not just for regional supremacy but for an automatic slot at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Matches like this don’t come much bigger in the women’s international game.

July 15 – Canada progressed to the final of Concacaf W Championship with a 3-0 win over Jamaica, which now sets up a showdown between the Olympic Champions and the World Champions, USA, at the BBVA Stadium in Monterrey, Mexico – one of the venues for the 2026 World Cup.

Canada, with the exact same record as the USA, have gone all the way to the final unbeaten, scoring 12 goals without conceding any.

July 15 – The world champions USA dispatched a tired looking Costa Rica 3-0 to progress to the final of the Concacaf W Championship and a shot at the qualifying slot for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

For the US it was very much job done, so far. Both teams had already qualified for the 2023 World Cup with the Costa Ricans making it for the second time in their history having qualified in 2015.

July 13 – World Champions USA face Costa Rica tomorrow in the first of the semi-finals of the Concacaf W Championship at the Estadio Universitario in Monterrey, Mexico.

Both teams have already qualified for the World Cup next year in Australia/New Zealand by virtue of making the semi-final, on the line now is a shot at the championship and a qualification place for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Not only were they the first Caribbean team, women or men, to qualify for back-to-back World Cups, they are also the only Caribbean men’s or women’s team to have ever qualified for two World Cups.

July 11 – Jamaica secured an automatic slot at the 2023 World Cup with an emphatic 4-0 win over Haiti at the BBVA Stadium in Monterrey.

Jamaica have qualified for their second consecutive World Cup and in the Concacaf W Championship now move to the semi-finals later this week where they meet Canada.

July 11 – The USA ruined Mexican chances of redemption at their home-hosted Concacaf W Championships with a goal in the final minute.

The US maintained their unbeaten run and ended any lingering hopes the Mexicans had of qualification for the 2023 World Cup.

Mexico had been looking to regain some pride in front of a home crowd in the Estadio Universitario in Monterrey after losses against Jamaica and Haiti in their first two group games.

July 11 – Canada delivered a 2-0 win over Costa Rica in their final group game on a hot and sticky evening in the BBVA Stadium in Monterrey to secure top spot in their group and miss meeting the USA in the semi-finals later this week.

It was another convincing win from the Canadian Olympic Champions who didn’t convert all their opportunities into goals but did show they can break down a stubborn back five defensive line.

July 11 – Panama beat Trinidad and Tobago 1-0 to earn a 2023 Women’s World Cup Playoff place in their final group game at the Estadio Universitario stadium in Monterrey.

July 10 – US coach Vlatko Andonovski is happy that his team have qualified for next year’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand but is very clear when he says “the job is not done yet.”

That job is winning the Concacaf W Championship and securing the spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics that will come with a championship win.

The US top Group A after two games with 8 goals and have yet to concede.
