March 31 – The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) has launched its Integriball 2.0 project, which aims to protect female and young footballers from threats related to safety and sports manipulation.

FRF, together with the CSCF Foundation for the Integrity of Sport, hosted two major training events at its headquarters. The initiative responds to the specific needs of female and young footballers, and is the first program of its kind in Romania.

The summit reflects SIGA’s ongoing commitment to promoting female leadership and advancing gender equity in Sport.

As part of its global mentorship programme, SIGA now has 40 mentors in the region and applications have been received from a wide range of mentees throughout Latin America.

February 13 – Sports integrity group SIGA has launched its SIGAWomen Council, dedicated to promoting gender equity and female leadership in sport. 

A key initiative within the SIGAWomen Programme, dedicated to promoting gender equity and female leadership in sport, the council will act as a high-level consultative internal organ designed to promote Good Governance in Sport.

Focus will be on advancing gender equity and promoting female leadership within the decision-making structures of sports governing bodies and other key stakeholders.

February 11 – Major League Soccer (MLS) opens its 2025 season on February 22, however, LAFC have already hit the news in controversial fashion as part-owner, Ruben Gnanalingam, was forced to apologise for anti-Israel posts on social media.

Both MLS and LAFC were critical of Gnanalingam (pictured left), after the Jewish Chronicle reported that the Malaysian businessman reposted messages on his LinkedIn page, including comments urging “armies” to “dismantle” Israel and one that compared the war in Gaza with the Holocaust.

December 11 – The game of football continues to evolve with different platforms of the sport becoming more prominent. The latest iteration of the ‘beautiful game’ that is gaining traction is 7-a-side football.

Founded in 2015 by Daniel Balcorta, the IFA 7 (International Football Association) recently announced an alignment with the Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) as the official integrity partner.

Formalised in Dubai, IFA7 will join SIGA as a Member in the New Year and will implement SIGA’s Universal Standards on Good Governance in Sport and be SIGA certified through its independent rating system,

November 13 – Dutch police say they have arrested five more people for their suspected involvement in the attacks on Israeli fans last week which authorities have condemned as antisemitic.

The suspects are men aged 18 to 37 and living in the Netherlands. Previously, 63 suspects had been arrested.

The assaults took place before and after the Ajax-Maccabi Tel Aviv Europe league game and made global headlines.

Unrest flared up again in the city on Monday evening when an empty tram and a police car were set alight.

November 11 – Peruvian police have arrested the head of the country’s FA, Agustín Lozano, as part of an investigation into allegations that he abused his position to extort local clubs into surrendering their television rights.

Lozano was detained last week outside his home Lima promising to clear up any misunderstanding and saying that “everything will be clarified to ensure peace of mind”. Six other people connected to the suspected conspiracy were also arrested.
