EPL cuts Fox as Tubi snags Mexico rights for rest of season

February 25 – The English Premier League has severed its four-year deal with Fox Sports México following the broadcaster’s failure to make payments for this season.

Tubi, the free ad-supported streaming platform, has stepped in to cover Fox’s share of live games for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

Initially, the Premier League had divvied up its Mexican broadcast rights between Fox Sports México and Warner Bros Discovery’s Max,

Davies and Shaw again head list of nominees for Concacaf awards

July 24 – Canada’s Alphonso Davies and Jamaica’s Khadija Shaw head the list of Concacaf nominees for its men’s and women’s player of the year awards.

Davies won the award in both 2021 and 2022, while Shaw also won the award in 2022.

This time round they are up against stiffer competition.

Concacaf draws groups and sets format for 2024/25 Nations League

May 7 – USA, Mexico, Panama and Canada have been pre-seeded into the quarter finals of the 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League that will be played over two-legs in the November 11-19 international fixtures window.

The US are looking for their fourth consecutive win in the competition’s fourth edition. Mexico have been the beaten finalists twice.

Concacaf conducted the group draw for the three divisions of the 2024/25 Nations League on Monday.

February 26 – Irapuato and Celaya, in Guanajuato, Mexico, will host the 12-team 2024 Concacaf Men’s U-20 Championship July 19-August 4.

The top four teams from the finals will qualify for the 2025 U-20 World Cup to be held in Chile. No Concacaf team has ever made the final of the U-20 World Cup with the best performance having been by the USA in 1989 with a fourth placed finish.

June 18 – The US continued where they left off against Mexico with a comfortable 2-0 win over Canada to retain their Nations League title.

The Canadians who came into the finals believing it was their time, will return home knowing that there is still work to be done to comprehensively close the gap at the very top of their confederation.

A lazer focus from the players on football rather than how much they are paid might be a good place to start.

June 18 – Mexico, with a goal by Jesus Gallardo, ended their five game no-win streak to take third place in the Concacaf Nations League with a 1-0 win over Panama.

If Mexico wanted to make a statement that this was a team in transition and headed in the right direction under Diego Cocca (pictured), the goal on four minutes suggested this was going to be the day.

June 16 – Concacaf have wasted no time issuing a statement “strongly condemning” the discriminatory chanting by Mexican fans in the CNL semi-final against the United States.

The confederation said it was “in the process of urgently establishing further details and reports from security and match officials and will make a further statement in short order.”

Mexico can expect significant sanctions for infractions that their fans refuse to stop repeating. They have been sanctioned several times by FIFA,

June 15 – Canada brushed Panama aside for a spot in the final with a 2-0 win that saw the return of Alphonso Davies.

The dream of a first major title lives strong and despite only having had a 4-day camp to prepare the Canadians improved across the game and with the arrival of Davies and his 30-minute cameo they could easily have scored more.

June 15 – USA versus Mexico rarely disappoints. In a feisty, chaotic, intense, end-to-end battle with four sendings off and tempers unravelling wherever you looked, the US walked away 3-0 winners.

It was a game that showcased everything that was good with football, and too much that is bad.

The star of the show was Chelsea’s Christina Pulisic, for the villain, take your pick from the sent off players on either side.

June 15 – Expect fireworks as Panama and Canada open the Nations League finals in Las Vegas tonight.

Canadian coach John Herdman is expecting a “chaotic” match and a “physical battle” in a game against Panama that can be a little “feisty”.

“Panama have got continuity. Thomas (Christiansen) has done a fantastic job. He is a top coach with a clear plan, they play as one with a clear mindset and a tactical game… they can also be a little feisty.”

May 31 – Anthony Hudson has suddenly quit as interim head coach of the USA men’s national side, just two weeks before he was to lead them in the CONCACAF Nations League semi-finals.

Hudson’s departure was announced less than a week after the US Soccer Federation said he would remain in charge for at least five more games.

Hudson, who helped secure the recruitment of several dual-nationality players, has been the interim head coach since January 4 following the expiration of coach Gregg Berhalter’s contract.
